Nottinghamshire keeper-batsman Joe Clarke was making his PSL debut today, and hit a fantastic 23 ball 46 as Karachi got the defence of their PSL title off to the perfect start.
Clarke is no stranger to franchise cricket after turning out for Perth Scorchers in the latest edition of the BBL, and he was heavily involved in a game that Karachi won with ease.
Clarke took 4 catches behind the stumps for Karachi as the Quetta Gladiators were bowled out for just 121 runs in 18.2 overs despite a composed 39 off 24 balls by Chris Gayle. Karachi, led by Clarke, Babur Azam and Mohammad Nabi knocked off the required runs inside 14 overs.
in truth, as soon as Quetta were Bowled out so cheaply, it was never going to be a close call with the batting talent on offer to Karachi,
Tom Banton’s PSL didn’t get off to the start he would have liked, with Clarke catching his fellow Englishman cheaply for just five. After being left out of England‘s T20 side to face India next month, Banton is searching for some form that had been eluding him recently.
Clarke is looking to vault himself into international contention with multiple T20 World Cups on the horizon. He has two hundreds and 9 half centuries to his name in T20 cricket a nd if he keeps performing in the PSL against some outstanding bowlers, he may well throw his hat into the ring.
The Nottinghamshire man was named the player of the tournament during the domestic 2020 blast and was picked in the silver category during the 2021 PSL Draft.
