Reflection and conclusion

7/11of the team pretty much pick themselves in this XI and this is reflected in the selections.

Jonny Bairstow sneaks into selection given his record on the subcontinent. Sam Curran is selected as the teams allrounder, his batting will be key at 7 given Chris Woakes is likely to miss out due to covid isolation. Mark Wood is the express pace option and would be battering ram in this XI.

Ben Foakes is a bold selection by the team; Ed Smith has said that Jos Buttler will keep the gloves, however the writing team disagrees. Concerns of Buttler's keeping abilities to spin, especially after a poor summer with the gloves, means that Foakes, man of the series two years ago, once again returns in England whites in this XI.

Stuart Broad narrowly misses out; whilst the third spinner is declined also, with Root and Lawrence given that responsibility.
