Four young County Cricket players to watch

With the cricket summer fast approaching, we take a look at some England (and overseas) players to watch during the 2021 domestic season.

Luke Holman - Middlesex - Leg spinning all-rounder

The London-born 20 year old had a half-breakthrough last season, when he was Middlesex‘s second-highest wicket-taker in the T20 Blast, and provided some quality knocks in both the CC and the shorter format. He also provided a run-out and two catches in the field.

He played for England U19 in the 2018 World Cup, where against Namibia, he took three wickets.

Tom Lace - Gloucestershire - Wicketkeeper/batsman

A product of the Middlesex academy from age 10, he’s had a loan spell at Derbyshire where he performed exceptionally. Back at Middlesex, he wasn’t a frequent member of the team, and last season he moved to Gloucestershire.

Jordan Cox - Kent - Wicketkeeper batsman

Made briefly famous by his huge partnership and making 238 runs himself in a single innings. He represented England in the most recent U19 World Cup, where he didn’t make much of an impact.

Last winter, he signed a new two-year contract. If he can retain his form this summer, he’ll most certainly be one to watch.

Ethan Bamber - Middlesex - Medium fast bowler

One of the nicest men you’ll ever meet, his manners fall short only of his pinpoint accuracy when bowling. Not the fastest of them all, but he makes up for it by tirelessly firing at the batsman outside off stump balls.

Dubbed by many as “mini-Murtagh”, he certainly has a big career ahead. I was lucky to be sitting in the pavilion at Lord’s when he took his first 5fer, against Derbyshire, looking back, it is more like an art than a sport the way he does it.
