England Women Miss Out on Final with Australia Defeat
Updated: Feb 26

England failed to make the final of the Tri-Series with defeat to Australia in Melbourne today.
England needed to beat Australia or score or 124 runs in defeat to ensure their passage through, but chasing a reachable 132 set by the hosts, England ran out of overs as they could only manage 116-7 in their 20 overs.
Although this is a disappointing end to the Tri-Series for England, they'll be encouraged by their victories over Australia and India with the T20 World Cup less than 2 weeks away.
England can take some positives from today's game with young leg-spinner Sarah Glenn bowling 4 economical overs while taking 2 wickets for just 18 overs. Despite Anya Shrubsole being expensive (35 runs in 3 overs), it was the England bats that went ice cold.
England found themselves at 70-6 against a good Australia attack and with limited wickets in hand and well behind the run-rate, it was always a challenge to get back on top.
Australia will now go on to face India in the final. England will get a rest now before the start of the T20 world cup.
