Whether you love it or you hate it, the 2020 IPL season is just around the corner and England are well represented in the most popular cricket tournament in the world.
However 12 England players will be jetting off to India for the tournament that is set to run between the 29th of March and the 24th of May. Here is a full list.
With the English domestic season set to start in early April, this will mean that the players above won't be available for their counties. If you're someone like Bairstow trying to play their way back into the test fold ahead of a busy summer, this isn't ideal. However when you look at the money for six weeks work, can we blame them?
England test players will be unavailable for the start of the tournament due to the tour to Sri Lanka which is set to conclude on the 31st of March.
When the IPL was first founded, England did everything they could to ensure their players were not included, however as time has progressed, attitudes have changed. Playing against the best players in the world, with the best players in the world, in a packed out stadium is now seen as a huge advantage.
Not only do the ECB not stop players from travelling to the IPL, they actively encourage it, and as a fan of the tournament I'm all for it. The IPL is a melting pot for the latest skills in T20 cricket and with two T20 World Cups on the horizon, England will want their players to not only be involved, but to excel as well.
Unsurprisingly, Ben Stokes is the most expensive Englishmen in the tournament and his all-round skills will be vital if the Royals hope to improve upon their disappointing 2019 season.
The biggest bargain has to be Tom Banton, who's fresh off a Big Bash campaign for the Brisbane Heat which saw him lead the league with a 176.98 strike rate. Kolkata, a team known for making shrewd signings will hope he can repeat his performance in the IPL.
Closer to the start of the tournament we're going to be doing a little preview with a firm focus on what we can expect from the England players listed above.
